Orange you glad I chose this colour?

This entry is part 4 of 6 in the series My Renovation

I have a question:

Why do builders build the homes the way they do? Really,  is there no thought whats so ever?

My powder room is a normal powder room on the main floor.  It has a sink and a toilet and a window – pretty stock powder room.

The problem is a heating vent and a wall.  No one took into consideration the HVAC system when placing the toilet.  There is no room for knees.

Now I realize that most construction workers are men, and that “sitting” only occupies 1/2 of the consideration – so there is enough room to “stand” but what about the other 50% of the human occupants in the world?  Or in the case of our home 75% of occupants…not including the cat – that’s another story..

The rocks by the base of the toilet are from my feng shui stage…disregard them…

We are changing the bath room, moving the toilet and ordering new fixtures! But we can’t do anything about the dang vertical bulk head…I know there’s a name for that – not bulk head – if you know post it please, it’s gonna bug me…

We decided to paint the walls a fantastic orange – Its a little daunting but I will make this my “fun” room. My burst of colour!

This WOW, Amazing colour is  Ben Moore 2170-30  – Autumn Cover.   My tiles are going in (I wanted the wooden floor but I was out voted by my husband). The have a little sparkle in them so I was satisfied.

Sorry about the shadow, working on the photography…

Do you see the fabric from Thibaut in the upper right hand corner ( hey if any one knows how to put those funky arrows in a picture let me know!!!)  That fabric is the inspiration for the powder room.  I am going to hand paint over-sized coral in white and light coral all over the room. Pictures to follow…

One of my goals with this home is to have a bit of something throughout the house. Hand painting, stenciling, decorative finishes, custom art.  The only item I am missing is a true “Faux” finish – but I am sure I’ll be able to have that somewhere.

So often friends and neighbours are unaware of what I do.  I KNOW!!! The way I gab you’d think everyone knew about my brilliant talent – Ek er em.. sorry about that just finished my coffee and I’m feeling frisky!

This way I can not only bring in clients to see what can be done. Like a show room of sorts,  I can stop saying the phrase “the cobblers children have no shoes….”

They do have shoes – too many of them – I’ll tell you that story when I show you the closet – Mmmmm my front hall closet.

Tell me about your favorite fun room! Your favorite finish!  Your favorite home project! I wanna know! Really!

Love Barb

So many things about my home that I wish were different — the walls going up in height via angles (so, no crown molding), the master bathroom having no closet space…sigh. But it does help to do some changing and decorating! Love that orange color and the fabric inspiration! Can’t wait to see the After. To answer your question – fave room is Master Bedroom. The Hubs asked for “black” and at first I cringed but brought in black accent wall with painted bamboo and variegated gold leaf…still enjoy it after many years. Loving your blog, btw. :)
