Organization and Routine = Peace and Pretty
I personally find that decorating front entrances can be challenging, after all they are the “first impression” you make on guests when the come over! Kind of like a house “hand shake”…No Pressure…I digress…
My hall used to be full of shoes, cat hair and back packs. Don’t get me started about what its like in the winter… Now a days – well, this is still generally true BUT with the renovation we have made some changes so when I decide to clean up for guests and parties its a snap!
First – Closet space and editing!
When you have children there are: shoes that fit, shoes at almost fit and favorite shoes that don’t fit any more. EDIT! Do it when the kids are out. I edit with a garbage bag! I think my children have nightmares about garbage bags…I’m a bad Mother. Donate, pitch and clean!
People move through your front entrance so I has to be functional, durable and easy to clean up quickly!
The investment in the front closet is priceless. I have a small closet, tiny really, but we are making the most of it!

This is the space now!

The key to this were the drawers and the double doors! Both my girls have one drawer – with the stipulation that if it doesn’t fit you my edit – get it…it goes in your room or to the donation box! Victor and I have to share, talk about editing!
Please excuse the paint – we are still finishing up the “Rocha Beautification Project”
Second: Pretty up the stairs

These are the stairs before – the floor had just been ripped up and they were looking pretty drab. We decided to paint over the old – post pregnancy faux bois (faux wood). The step of the stairs is going to be re-stained and a new newel post installed! Oh I was looking forward to this!

This was the stain colour – a bit darker than the floor but lovely – freak’n messy though – the stainers got hand prints all over the walls -Geeze! You can see the faux wood finish better here -please don’t judge me! I was nine days out from having a baby and lost my mind…’come on Mom’s you know what I mean!!!

This is me painting the risers a beautiful white – semi gloss – 4 coats – sigh…10 years out of pregnancy – OK so if you knew me you’d say I still haven’t found my brain…

Stairs without the railings – if it wasn’t dangerous – I’d keep it this way!

Viola! Beautiful front impression. My home still has to be “accessorized” Once that is done then the bigger WOW pictures will be posted – but for now – who left the green tape on the stair – geeze!

Hi Barb. Really nice work you are doing here. I understand the satisfaction of finishing a project, even if it is a smaller part of a whole (and even if it takes forever!). It is looking lovely.
