Barbara Rocha: President and Founder of Paint a Lifestyle

“Always with the drama!”  As a teenager, Barbara Rocha often heard this from her mother.  Little did she know that drama would become a guiding principle in her approach to paint, colour and design: knowing how to create it, revel in it and escape it.

As founder and principal of Paint a Lifestyle, Barbara puts her clients ‘centre stage’ and creates a backdrop for their lives by helping them transform their homes into spaces that spark emotion. Barbara started her love affair with colour when she fell in love with theatre.  With more than seventeen years experience in her craft, Barbara knows that colour transforms a space like nothing else.  “Colour sets the mood and tells a story without uttering a word,” says Barb.

With two young daughters, Barbara knows that today’s mother has to play many roles; the home needs to be a vibrant centre of joy, but also a calm sanctuary to escape life’s dramas.  Barbara is commonly heard saying “colour is magical; colour is emotion!”

Barbara combines her extensive education and keen design sensibility to create spaces that are evocative and can set any mood.  She takes her cues from her clients and works in close partnership with them to design a space that is functional, reflective of their character and most importantly, fits their lifestyle.

Creating custom paint finishes for clients has been Barbara’s driving passion for years. She combines colours to create flow, crafts themes that fit personalities and hand paints murals flawlessly to inspire passion.  “I love painting.  It’s communication through colour, texture and imagery,” says Barbara.

Prior to starting Paint a Lifestyle, Barbara worked alongside Artistic Directors and Set Designers for numerous theatrical productions. Armed with her scenic painting certifications from York University and Sheridan College, it was not long before the Shakespearean quote rang true and Barbara realized that ‘all the world is a stage’.
Barbara’s unique ability to create an emotional impact within to work with two of Canada’s most renowned retail stores: The Hudson Bay Company and Eaton’s. Her designs were implemented to create spectacularly dramatic backdrops that literally stopped people in the street.  She has also been seen on Breakfast Television, From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis (Global) and Room to Go (HGTV).   She also believes in giving back and has used her talent in support of Ronald MacDonald House in Toronto and various hospitals for their donation walls!
“Colour is art and drama – and I am privileged to have a career that induces such passion in everyone, including myself,” concluded Barbara.
